Stress eating

So many of us are stressed nowadays. When we’re stressed our cortisol levels go up, which is a hormone that contributes to weight gain, and our appetite increases. We tend to grab those foods high in sugar, salt, and fat to make us feel better. But do we really feel better? Sugary foods and ultra processed foods can cause even MORE stress on the body. Research has shown that a diet high in ultra processed foods is associated with depression and other mental health disorders.

Effects of stress on the body: Weakened immune system, lose sleep, exercise less, drink more alcohol, among others.

There are many ways you can manage stress, like mediation, regular exercise, AND through the foods you eat – high-quality, nutrient-dense foods that contain lots of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.
